For the first time, WAYANAD AGRO MOVEMENT TEA CO. LTD. (WAM Tea), a producer of high-quality tea and tea certified by UTZ Quality Coffee Certification in India, has obtained UTZ Quality Tea Certification. WAM Tea consists of 426 small farmers, with 275 hectares of tea plantations.
The tea gardens of small farmers are located in Karimani, Wayanad, Kerala, southwest India, and distributed in villages around the processing plant. Their tea is mainly sold in the local market by auction or Pushpagiri Tea brand, and the profits from sales are directly paid to growers or used for investment in tea gardens.
On November 26, 2009, the UTZ certification authority issued a certificate to WAM Tea through an official ceremony. Guests from many countries attended the ceremony.
