Consumers can now be sure whether the products they choose really meet the organic standard -- the first version of the Australian organic and biokinetic product standard on October 9. The standard outlines the minimum requirements that growers and manufacturers expect their products to be labelled organically and biodynamically. It establishes a procedure that must be followed in the production, preparation, transportation and labeling of organic and biokinetic products (including raw materials and processed products). The standard prohibits the use of genetically modified products and requires that "the use of pesticides and synthetic chemical fertilizers is almost absolutely prohibited".
